Amanda Young's backstory contains a number of serious, potentially triggering subjects. These include:

- Serial murder
- Homicidal sadism
- Graphic and brutal torture
- Heroin addiction
- Self-harm
- Physical, emotional, and mental child abuse (inflicted upon her) by an alcoholic and drug-addicted parent
- Child sexual abuse (inflicted upon her and others) by that same parent
- Incestuous abuse (see above)
- Miscarriage (not her own)
- Intense Stockholm Syndrome
- Police corruption and brutality
- Prison abuse (partly sexual) and the resultant trauma
- Severe and untreated Borderline Personality Disorder
